Significant decrease in the number of new corona infections in Amstelveen

AMSTELVEEN The number of newly diagnosed coronavirus (COVID-19) infections among residents of Amstelveen has fallen sharply. This is evident from the weekly update of the RIVM figures. In two weeks (from 12 to 25 May) 189 residents received a positive test result. That is 138 fewer than in the previous measurement period (from 5 to 18 May). At the time, the virus was still diagnosed in 327 inhabitants.

The current contamination rate in Amstelveen therefore fell sharply compared to last week from 356.7 to 206.2 per 100,000 inhabitants. On average, about 13 new infections per day were added to Amstelveen in the past period. There were about 23.

DECREASE ALSO IN REGION A significant decrease in the number of newly diagnosed corona infections was also registered in Amsterdam. From 12 to 25 May, 2,446 residents of the capital received a positive test result. In the previous measurement period (from 5 to 18 May) this happened with 3,579 Amsterdammers. The infection rate in Amsterdam decreased from 410.1 to 280.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. The neighboring municipality of Aalsmeer still has the highest contamination level in the Amsterdam-Amstelland region. It has now fallen further from 483.4 to 339.0 per 100,000 inhabitants. In Uithoorn, the contamination rate has also declined from 329.1 to 237.5 per 100,000 inhabitants.

PRESSURE IN HOSPITALS STILL HIGH The number of newly registered corona infections also decreased nationally. With 25,255 new positive people tested between May 19 and May 25, the number of reports fell by 28 percent. In the past calendar week, 32 percent fewer patients with COVID-19 were also hospitalized than in the previous week. The number of new admissions fell from 1,224 to 830. In intensive care, the new inflow fell by 23 percent compared to the previous week. The number of IC admissions decreased from 241 to 186. The pressure on hospitals is now falling, according to RIVM, but it is still high. ‘That is why it remains important that everyone continues to adhere to the (basic) measures, so that the number of COVID-19 admissions and the number of infections continue to fall.’

CORONATESTBUS The GGD’s corona test bus has been back in the parking lot in front of the Ben Goudsmithal on the Sportlaan in Amstelveen since 17 May. The test bus is open every day from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 12:45 to 16:00. Testing is free and can be done without an appointment. Do bring a face mask and a valid ID such as a passport, driver’s license or identity card. The test bus will be in Amstelveen at least until June 27. Anyone with mild complaints can have a corona test done. The corona test bus is an addition to test locations of the GGD in the RAI and Schiphol.
