signals that more companies will leave our country

VNO-NCW chairman Ingrid Thijssen hears direct signals from other companies that may – following Shell – leave our country. “There is real unrest and I am absolutely very concerned about that,” said the employer chairman in the television program WNL Op Zondag on NPO1.

At the beginning of this week, Shell announced that it would move its head office to the United Kingdom, which means that our country will see another large company leave after Unilever. Thijssen calls this “an enormous loss”. The forewoman of the largest employers’ union in our country cracks down on the sentiment in politics towards business and the subsequent “erratic decision-making”. This uncertainty and volatility makes it increasingly difficult for companies to do business in a stable manner. “We have many large companies that we can be proud of, and we should definitely not ‘neglect’ that”.

‘Let this be a low point’

According to Thijssen, drastic work must therefore be done to improve the business climate in the Netherlands. “Let this be a low point, but also a turning point. We cannot sit back and think ‘everything will be fine’. That’s just not true. I’m not going to threaten now, but there is unrest in our supporters and we really have to pay attention to our business now,” said the employer foreman.
