Signal and WhatsApp recently launched new features around messages disappearing after a certain amount of time. On Signal, it is now possible to choose a retention period for messages for each discussion thread. To do this, you must press the name of your correspondent then on “Ephemeral messages”.
For example, you can make sure to keep certain conversations indefinitely, and conversely make someone else’s messages automatically disappear after a few minutes, hours or weeks. This function will easily save storage space, but also limit the data accessible if ever you were to be separated from your phone.
Another novelty is the possibility of defining a disappearance duration for all new conversations (* Account *> * Confidentiality *> * Ephemeral messages *), as well as a personalized delay.
WhatsApp has deployed its function so far in beta adding the single-view photos. As on Snapchat, it is now possible to send a snapshot or a video which will be deleted after reading. The service takes the example of photos of clothes fitting in a store or of Wi-Fi codes. To do this, you will have to select the “single view” option when choosing the document. Please note, users can still take screenshots without anyone being notified.
