Within the framework of its responsible strategy and effective societal role, Unilever Mashreq for Industry and Trade, represented by its Signal brand, reviewed its awareness plan to spread awareness of the importance of maintaining oral and dental health, during a special conference in cooperation with the General Authority for Health Care, UNICEF, and the World Dental Federation (FDI). And the Egyptian Society of Dental Surgeons, in line with the Egyptian state’s plan to enhance the health of Egyptians, especially oral and dental health, through regular daily brushing and toothpaste.
The event witnessed Unilever signing a cooperation protocol to complete the awareness plan on oral and dental health and safety, with the General Health Care Authority, with the aim of reaching the equivalent of 25% of the population of the governorates in which the authority operates. Unilever also signed a protocol with UNICEF, which aims to reach 2 million children.
During the conference, experts from various participating parties shed light on diseases resulting from neglect of oral and dental health, such as mouth ulcers, heart disease, diabetes, oral cancer, and pneumonia, as dental health is one of the basic indicators of public health safety, and neglecting oral and dental hygiene constitutes a societal problem. It affects approximately 3.5 billion people worldwide, representing 5 times the incidence of mental illness, heart disease, diabetes, and chronic respiratory disease.
As part of its plan, Signal will provide examinations through treatment convoys and study programs, in order to rebuild and consolidate sound oral and dental care habits, using brush and toothpaste on a daily basis.

The company’s awareness plan is a continuation of Signal’s journey in partnership with the General Authority for Healthcare, UNICEF, the World Dental Federation (FDI), and the Egyptian Society of Dental Surgeons.
Dr. Ahmed Al-Subki, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Public Health Care Authority, stressed, “The partnership with Unilever embodies the actual application of the concept of partnerships between the public and private sectors as partners in success and as a real key to ensuring the sustainability of comprehensive health coverage and a successful example of fruitful and continuous cooperation to achieve better health for citizens.”
Tamer Mahmoud, member of the Unilever Board of Directors and head of Unilever’s Personal Care Products Marketing Sector for North Africa, the Levant and Iraq, also stated:
“We aim for Signal’s message, which is the need to pay attention to oral and dental health, to reach the largest percentage of all societal groups. Signal aims to double its efforts to reach 20 million Egyptians with direct awareness messages in the various governorates, and we call on everyone to contribute to making a positive change, through initiatives.” And ongoing campaigns to discuss diseases resulting from not paying attention to oral health and neglecting to brush teeth with toothpaste on a regular and daily basis, and to encourage children to regularly brush their teeth with brush and toothpaste daily.”
Jeremy Hopkins, UNICEF Representative in Egypt, said: “It is important for us at UNICEF to prioritize children’s health and support them to have a strong and healthy start in life. Children in Egypt constitute approximately 40% of the total population, and they have the right to protection and access to health services and proper nutrition. As stated by Dr. Nahoud Thabet, Member of the Supreme Council of the World Dental Federation, the Union’s responsible for the African continent:
“The goal of the Union is to raise awareness of oral and dental health and the diseases resulting from it and to train the dentist through continuing medical education, as we have been working with Signal on this since 2015 through health convoys and programs for oral health, and today is a continuation of our efforts with Signal with the aim of changing misconceptions and promoting Egyptian society”
It is worth noting that Signal launched the “Hold Your Health in Your Hands and Teeth” campaign in partnership with the General Authority for Health Care, to spread awareness in Egypt’s governorates about health care methods and the correct ways to wash teeth and hands, provide general examination and dental examination, and organize visits to schools, in all of Egypt’s governorates affiliated with the Authority. .
