OLOMOUC – Slovak football goalkeeper Matúš Macík signed for Sigma Olomouc’s Saturday home loss against Pardubice (0:2) in the Czech league with a curious mistake. The result of the meeting worsened the already tense situation in the club, which is not doing well and is in conflict with its own fans.
Home defender Vít Beneš sent a “little home” to Macík in the 32nd minute, but he didn’t catch the ball and it slipped between his legs and into the net. The 30-year-old goalkeeper quickly “shaken up” from the mistake, in the next course of the meeting he made four successful saves, which saved Olomouc from a major defeat.
“I didn’t even think for a minute about replacing him. I think I did well, he caught otherwise great” said home coach Jiří Saňák for the official club website.
It was their intention
It was the first victory for Pardubice after four losses. “Getting Macík to pass from the back was our intention. The goal was lucky, it happens in football. It helped us a lot, but it was mainly a reward for hard work.” said Pardubice coach David Mikula, who replaced the suspended Radoslav Kováč on the bench.
Things are boiling in Olomouc
Sigma fans shouted insults towards the club’s management and players throughout the match. Saňák admitted that the hostile atmosphere has an impact on the team’s performances: “Whoever is not affected by this must be a fighter. This situation is very unpleasant, we can play however we like, but we still have no support.”
Olomouc fans’ dissatisfaction with the game and the club’s management grew in March. They placed posters in the city center calling for the resignation of the management and also sent an open letter to the management.
