“We want to win, to be as high as possible. In the last competition year, we proved our quality. The team remained almost together, we got Lukáš Juliš for Mojmír Chytil, who left for Slavia, he is hungry, more ambitious, he wants to at least defend last year’s position,” Sigma helmsman Václav Jílek told reporters on Thursday.
According to him, the prospect of a European cup is attractive. “Especially when you can break into it even from seventh place. However, we are not aiming for that at the moment. We know very well that the start of the season is important. So the goal at the moment is to catch the introduction. But I believe that compared to last year, we will move forward again, we will be able to play regularly balanced matches with the top three and improve the position from last season,” he emphasized.
“This season will be special. You may not succeed in the first stage, finish ninth and suddenly find out after a month that you have made Europe. That’s why it’s not very good to set goals now. Every match, every point won will be important, and that’s how we have to look at it,” added Olomouc captain Radim Berite.
He and Jílek expect a much more balanced league than in previous years. “This is mainly in view of the fact that, for example, Baník, Jablonec and Mladá Boleslav have strengthened a lot. That’s certainly why there will be more pressure on the top six,” said the coach from Olomouc.
In the preparation, his wards were one hundred percent. They managed to win in all six matches, which they last managed in the winter training in the 2007/08 season. “We are not overestimating it in any way. It’s nice that it went well, it will help with self-confidence, but it means nothing for the league,” he said.
He cannot yet use one of the mainstays, striker Antonín Růsek, who is plagued by a sore back. “It’s a complication. We would have more options, alternatives with him. For the return of the cannon, the first, the last, but it’s not easy,” said Jílek. “Next week he goes for another consultation with experts and then a decision should be made on how to proceed with his treatment. However, it doesn’t look like much in the fall. We’ll see,” added sports director Ladislav Minář.
The Hanáci will start the season at Sparta. “It will be a huge challenge for us, a great start. We’re going to the master’s loft, for whom the general went great. They swept Anderlecht, convincingly and game-wise. We can immediately confront the highest quality. And we will definitely not go there surrendered. We are capable of playing a good match there,” says Jílek.
