Polda Metro Jaya arrested 48 WNAs suspected of extortion and fraud via online at its headquarters in West Jakarta. The perpetrators blackmailed the victim with modus phone sex.
Monitoring detik.com, the perpetrators were featured in the press conference. They wear white T-shirts with their names and numbers written on the back.
The Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Brigadier General Yusri Yunus said this fraud syndicate has been in action since August 2021. The results of the initial examination, the victims of the perpetrators are known to be citizens China and Taiwan.
“We have secured 48 suspects. The average victims are Chinese and Taiwanese citizens,” said Yusri at Polda Metro Jaya, Jakarta, Saturday (11/13/2021).
These 48 suspects consisted of 44 men and 4 women. Dozens of these perpetrators on average came from China and Vietnam.
Yusri said that the disclosure of this case was the result of collaboration with the police in Taiwan. At that time, the Polda Metro Jaya received a report that the perpetrator was in Indonesia.
“The results of the coordination of reports from China and Taiwan, the victim reported and the Taiwan police coordinated with the Polda Metro Jaya for profiling the perpetrators and the perpetrators were in Indonesia,” Yusri explained.
The police then found the location of the perpetrators in the West Jakarta area. The raid was carried out by the Cyber Tipid Team from the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Polda Metro Jaya led by Mr Police Commissioner Rovan Richard Mahenu in three locations, namely Jalan Cengkeh Ruko 22A-22G West Jakarta, Jalan Mangga Besar 1 Ruko No 31/33 West Jakarta and at Ruko Jiu Jiu Xiang, Mediterranean complex, Gajah Mada, West Jakarta.
Yusri said the perpetrators carried out their actions through a dating application. Through this application, the perpetrator will interact with the victim intensely.
“One activity chatting by forcing them to take off their clothes. So the female perpetrators lure the victim by taking off her clothes so that the victim is provoked and becomes the basis for extortion from the victim. The victim is in China but the perpetrator is playing in Indonesia,” Yusri explained.
Perpetrators usually use nude photos of victims as a basis for extortion. If the victim refuses to hand over the money, nude photos it will be distributed by the perpetrators.
These 48 perpetrators have now been detained at Polda Metro Jaya. Dozens of the perpetrators are still under intensive police investigation.
These perpetrators were charged with Article 30 Juncto Article 48 and/or Article 28 paragraph 1 Juncto Article 45 paragraph 1 and/or Article 35 Juncto Article 51 paragraph 1 of the ITE Law. The police are still coordinating with the immigration authorities in the process of taking action against the perpetrators who are all foreign nationals.
