The beauty of species such as the American White Pelican adorns one of the most important parks in the Toluca Valley, the Sierra Morelos State Park, which since last February 10 has recorded sightings of these species.
The State Commission of Natural Parks and Fauna (Cepanaf) of the State Secretariat of the Environment registered in recent days the arrival of approximately 36 specimens of American White Pelican on board called “Los Patitos” and “Los Ángeles”located in this park.
The first sighting of these species was recorded on February 10, when around 12 specimens of the species arrived. Pelecanus erythrorhynchoswhich increased on February 11, reporting two groups of approximately 36 individuals.
This dependency detailed that the American White Pelican is one of the three species of pelicans of the New World, most of its plumage is white except for the primary feathers that are observed in flight, it is also the only species that develops a horn on its beak during the reproductive season that occurs between March and April.
Specimens of this species fly in circles at great heights and most of their populations are migratory; some of them are residents of the coasts of Texas and Mexico, others migrate by day from north to southeastern and southwestern America in the direction of coastal lands, and some other non-breeding specimens spend the summer in their distribution area.

Park closed to the public
The stay of these specimens in the Park is not very predictableit can consist of a few days up to a couple of weeks, however, the invitation to the public to protect and conserve the species of flora and fauna that inhabit our territory is reiterated, likewise, it is recalled that access to the park is temporarily suspended for remodeling works until further notice.
