The Chinese army on Saturday announced two days of “combat readiness” military maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait.
Taiwan detected this Sunday 11 warships and 70 Chinese planes around the island, declared the Ministry of Defense, regarding the simulation of “total siege” that China is carrying out for the second day.
The ministry also said it was responding to the Chinese exercises “in a calm and composed manner”, adding that the warplanes detected until 16:00 local time (08:00 GMT) were fighter planes and bombers.
The Chinese army announced on Saturday two days of “combat readiness” military maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait, following the passage of the island’s leader through the United States, also stating that on Monday it would carry out exercises with live fire.
In response to this announcement, the island’s leader, Tsai Ing-wen, stated that Taiwan is facing China’s “authoritarian expansionism”.
However, the United States warned that any unilateral action by China on Taiwan would pose a danger to global stability, and urged China to show “restraint” in military exercises.
