Sidoarjo DPRD Commission D Emphasizes Steps to Prevent Dengue Fever

SIDOARJO – The rainy season has arrived. Dengue fever (DHF) began to haunt. According to data from the Sidoarjo Health Office, as of November there were 5 children under 15 years old who had died from the disease. The legislature also believes that preventive measures must be taken.

Chairman of Commission D DPRD Sidoarjo Dhamroni Chudlori said the larva monitoring cadre (jumantik) played a major role in controlling DHF. During the rainy season like now, there are many puddles that are prone to become breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito. “Don’t let dengue fever become a new threat in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Jumantik cadres are expected to continue to be active. Namely by conducting a survey to the homes of residents so that no larvae develop. By taking preventive measures, it is hoped that the number of dengue cases will increase.

Meanwhile, the Head of Disease Prevention at the Sidoarjo Health Office, Atho’ Ilah, said that some children with dengue fever were too late to be taken to health facilities.

“Don’t let the lack of fluids and bleeding occur,” he said.

The case fatality rate (CFR) of DHF in Sidoarjo should be less than 1 percent. However, in fact it is still 2 percent. For this reason, the community is asked to implement the 3M principles. Namely draining, closing, and burying. This is important to do in order to reduce the spread of dengue fever.

He explained that mosquitoes carrying dengue disease usually bite in the morning and evening. Mosquito larvae-free monitoring activities in Sidoarjo will also be maximized. Because, currently the percentage is still 90 percent. (nis/vga)
