(AFP) – Sexuality education is vital for young people, the association Sidaction believes in a campaign launched on Tuesday, while school programs on the subject have been frozen for several months amid controversy. conservation groups started.
“Sidaction is launching a campaign to remind people of the urgency of education for emotional, relational and sexual life,” said the association that fights AIDS and HIV in a press release.
This campaign takes place not only in the context of World AIDS Day, Sunday, but also because the government is slow to present the final texts on the sex education program that was to be on introduced at the beginning of the school year.
He had to comply with the law which, since 2001, has made this type of program mandatory, with at least three annual sessions in schools, colleges and high schools. In fact, this preparation is not very well respected.
Education Minister Anne Genetet promised last week that the new program would be introduced in December, ensuring it would be “progressive” and “in order” against a backdrop of controversy over the subject.
Conservative groups have moved against these programs, such as the Family Union, ex-Manif pour tous, calling it “anti-gender and trans-active brainwashing” and calling for the school to remain a “sanctuary”.
In this context, Sidaction emphasizes the idea that, due to a lack of education at school, teenagers are at risk of being exposed to sex for the first time through pornography.
“The pornography that young people have access to shows a model of sexuality that is focused on performance, sexuality without relationships other than sexuality and often without any expression related to consent”, regrets, in the press release, Florence Thune, general director of Sidaction.
“School and educational programs for emotional, relational and sexual life contribute directly to fighting against the clichés that this type of content shows,” she continues.
Sidaction makes the connection between “lack of information” and the fact that almost half of adults under the age of 30 say they did not use a condom when they first had sex with a new partner.
“To respond to this major public health issue, schools must play a protective role by offering young people a common, age-adjusted knowledge base through their schooling,” said – the association closed.
