After the very successful performances of the musical “The Little Shop of Horrors” at the end of 2022, the Ovigo Theater has released the next play with a musical focus, “Sid and Nancy. A Junkie Fairy Tale”. The production came to the Centrum Bavaria Bohemia (CeBB) in Schönsee, directed by Michael Zanner.
The sometimes dark play is about the toxic and murderous love story between Sid Vicious, the bassist of the punk legends Sex Pistols, and the death-wishing groupie Nancy Spungen. In 1978, the two spent their last night together in room 100 of the legendary Chelsea Hotel in New York – with alcohol, drugs and dreams they believed lost as destructive companions. Nancy is found dead on the bathroom floor the next morning. A knife wound in her stomach caused her to bleed to death. Sid is arrested and dies of a heroin overdose just four months later. He takes the mystery of Nancy’s death with him to the grave.
After the premiere in the W1 – Center for Young Culture Regensburg, the Ovigos made a guest appearance in the sold-out CeBB, where the 80 visitors followed the tragic last night in New York’s Chelsea Hotel spellbound. Once again, Ovigo has lived up to its reputation of bringing something special to the stage and challenging the audience. The ensemble was deservedly rewarded with a long final applause and a few standing ovations.
Nils Dirscherl from Moosbach, who has previously appeared on Ovigo in the dinners with Killer (crime dinner) and time travel to Thanstein Castle, slips into the role of Sid Vicious. Nancy Spungen is played by Lisamarie Berger from Oberviechtach, who has been active in various roles for the club since 2015. Other characters are played by Freya Fehse (from Bayreuth) and Stefan Reiter (from Tirschenreuth). “They don’t mince their words and it’s also very physical. But the actors really get involved and together we develop a dense and certainly also oppressive punk chamber play,” says director Michael Zanner.
Other dates at Badehaus Maiersreuth and Hotel Alter Pfarrhof Nabburg (in a hotel room) are already completely sold out. But the Ovigos are already planning a resumption for the coming autumn. Dates and tickets are coming soon www.ovigo-theater.de to find. There will be more from Ovigo from March 18th, when the comedy “Pension Schöller” comes to the stages – including in Oberviechtach, Neunburg vorm Wald, Pfreimd or Maxhütte-Haidhof.
