SIC Notícias | Covid-19 outbreak in Mora. Mayor raises suspicion of “legal non-compliance”

The Mayor of Mora raised suspicions that the origin of the outbreak of the new coronavirus in the Alentejo village of Mora comes from “legal non-compliance”.

The number of people infected in the village of Mora, in the district of Évora, rose this Monday to 42.

The population said that the outbreak originated in a couple who went to the village and knew they had tested positive for Covid-19.

The Mayor refused that the citizens of Mora have relaxed during the confinement.

“The population of Mora has been, during these five months, extremely responsible,” said Luís Simão, Mayor of Mora in statements to SIC Notícias.

The provider of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mora considers that the outbreak appeared because of the carelessness of the population from the Alentejo village, which no longer has the necessary care, devaluing symptoms such as high fevers.

The regional secretary of the Independent Union of Doctors of Alentejo wants the entire population of Mora to be tested, in order to better control the spread of covid-19.

Now, the streets have fewer people than usual and the population admits that they were taken by surprise.

The concern increases day by day and there are few cafes in the Alentejo village that are open. Restaurants, shops and public services are closed.

The Director-General of Health, Graça Freitas, said this Monday that it is still early for ascertain the origin and the transmission chains of the Mora outbreak. At the usual press conference, he acknowledged that this is a complex outbreak.
