The team “Šiauliai” (1/0) started fighting in the Northern European Basketball League (ENBL), where it will play in Group A.
In this tournament, all teams had already played at least a couple of matches, except Lithuanian teams – Šiaulius and Alytus Wolves, who are still waiting for their debut.
In the opening match the students of Antanas Sireika from Estonia 79:71 (23:18, 19:9, 24:15, 13:29) broke the club “Kalev/Cramo” (2/2) from Tallinn.
Even though the lead is not big, Šiauliai’s people controlled the match and increased their lead from the start. At halftime the home team led 42:27, then they were away. 14:0 – this is how the shot was, thanks to which the Estonian club was crushed (61:37), however, during the last quarter, the people of Šiauliai spread a huge lead.
The Tallinn team was quickly closing in (62:71), but in the end Jonas Zohore’s layup and Paulius Danusevičius’s penalties made the point.
The aforementioned P. Danusevičius scored 18 points for Šiauliai, 17 were added by Martynas Varnas, 13 – J. Zohore (9 rebounds), 11 – Arminas Urbutis, 8 – Eimantas Stankevičius, 5 – Antino Jackson, 4 – Kyle Mangas (0 / 5 min.).
Arturas Konontšuks scored 20 points for the Tallinn team (8 rebounds, 5/11 triples), 15 – Oleksandras Kovliar, 8 – Taavi Jurkatamm.
