Twin girls first see each other after separation surgery

The girls were born a year ago, with fused heads. For a rare operation, preparations were made for several months.

Israel carried out the first operation in the country to separate conjoined twins. It is reported by BBC News.-

It is noted that the 12-hour operation took place at the Soroka Medical Center in the city of Beer Sheva. Dozens of specialists were involved in it, including from abroad.

The twin girls were born in August 2020. Preparations for their separation, which included scalp transplants for both patients, took several months.

During this time, inflatable silicone balls were inserted under the scalp, which periodically expanded to stretch it. This skin was then used to cover their heads after skull reconstruction.

“The training also included the creation of a 3D model of the twins in virtual reality. Fortunately, everything went as we had hoped,” said the center’s chief neurosurgeon, Mickey Gideon.

At the moment, the girls are doing well and can breathe and eat on their own. After separation, they are expected to be able to lead a fulfilling life.

Such an operation was carried out only 20 times in the world, and for the first time in Israel.

Recall last year conjoined twins Ronnie and Donnie passed away Galion, who lived a record long life – 68 years.

The brothers were born on October 28, 1951 and died at the age of 68.
