Shy’m Overcomes Challenges in Starring Role on “Cannes Criminal Police”

In the TF1 series “Cannes criminal police”, Shy’m plays policewoman Léa Robert. The singer and actress feared not fitting the role from a physical point of view.

Shy’m leads the investigation with Lucie Lucas

She was first known as a singer and dancer, but Shy’m (real name Tamara Marthe) is also actress and was able to show himself in this role to a large audience with the series Profiling (2020). Even if she only played the role of Elisa Bergman for one season, she was sufficiently convincing to interest the production of Cannes criminal police.

Alongside Lucie Lucas, Shy’m plays a police officer who leads investigations on the Croisette. In this detective series tinged with lightness, the duo also crosses paths with a charming crook played by Jamie Bamber. A great team which unfortunately received many reviews during the broadcast of the first episodes, due to dubbing which leaves much to be desired. Indeed, Cannes criminal police is a co-production and the filming was done in English for international distribution. The French actresses then dubbed themselves for the French version.

Too skinny for Cannes criminal police ?

Near TF1Shy’m mentioned this difficulty in turning in English before doubling up, because even if she “gets by” in everyday life, “shooting in English is something else!“. The actress then had to work with a coach, also present on the set. To this was added a strong apprehension of Shy’m to truly fit his character from a physical point of view. Indeed, Léa Robert, her character, never misses an opportunity to snack on sweets. Taking this into account, the actress explained to Leisure TV his fear of appearing too thin.

It was a lot of pressure for this particular shoot because, when I tried out, I had just given birth. I still had my pregnancy pounds and it suited my character. But when I arrived on set, a year later, I had lost everything, or more… and I couldn’t gain weight back. I am very anxious and stressed by nature, so I don’t stock up. It was a bit of pressure, because I didn’t want to be too skinny for the role.

Despite this, Shy’m is convincing in his role. And even though she visibly put pressure on herself before filming, she says having gained confidence as the days went by and came outgrown up from this shoot.

I gained confidence in myself as a woman: it was the first time that I had embarked on a professional project in such an intense way and over such a long period since the birth of my son, and it reassured me to tell myself that I was capable of it. I came out of this shoot a little better.

Cannes criminal police can be followed on TF1 every Monday. The episodes are also available on MyTF1 in VF and VOST.
