Shuts down Oslo restaurant after outbreak – VG

HALF THE CHRISTMAS TABLE INFECTED: After a Christmas table at this restaurant on Aker Brygge last Friday, half the company became infected. A good number have been diagnosed with omicron.

Quarantine employees mean that Louise Bar and Restaurant will have to close down – in the middle of the busy Christmas table season.

On Friday night, the health service in Oslo municipality confirmed that 13 cases of infection with omikron have been registered – all from the same Christmas table at Louise Bar and Restaurant at Aker Brygge.

On Saturday evening, Oslo Municipality recommends that everyone who was at the restaurant on Friday 26 November after 6 pm, who has not already received follow-up, contact the municipality.

– To prevent further spread of infection, Oslo Municipality wants those guests who have not been in contact with the municipality to be tested with a PCR test at a municipal test center and avoid contact with others until a negative test result is available, they write in a press release.

Quarantined employees

If you had planned to spend Saturday night at Louise’s, you have to settle for finding another place to be.

The owners of Louise have now felt compelled to close the restaurant.

– We have received an order that all guests and employees who were present that evening must be in a imposed ten-day quarantine from 26 November. This also includes those who were originally quarantined, and who after that have tested themselves with a negative PCR test, says general manager Markus Gjelseth to VG.

Oslo Municipality recommends that everyone who was at Louise Restaurant & Bar at Aker Brygge on Friday 26 November after kl. 18.00, which has not already received follow-up, to contact Oslo Municipality on telephone 47697010.

Since almost all employees who were at work now have to be quarantined, it is therefore not possible to keep the nightclub open, he says. It also involves employees who did not stay out of the restaurant, but who were at work that day.

– It corresponds to pretty much everything we have that kitchen staff, bartenders and waiters. For us, this will be so extensive that we no longer have the opportunity to stay open today. It has been an extremely difficult situation.

VG’s Astrid Meland comments: «A completely unusual Christmas table»

– Very demanding

Gjelseth further says that they are now working on calling around to guests who had table reservations and events planned at the restaurant to inform about the new decision.

The general manager says that the last few days have been very demanding.

– This is one of the most important days of the year for us, so for us it has major financial consequences. But what we are most concerned about is the safety and sense of security of our employees and our guests, and we generally want to contribute as much as possible to improve the infection situation we are now in.

Since the ten-day quarantine period has retroactive effect from 26 November, all employees will be out of quarantine next Monday.

– We expect to be able to open Louise again for normal operation from next Monday.
