The main activities carried out by the operator during this shutdown and monitored by the Nuclear Safety Authority (ASN) were as follows:
- unloading and reloading of fuel,
- maintenance and control of various equipment and valves,
- maintenance and control of diesel engine emergency generator sets,
- the implementation of measures to resolve certain compliance gaps,
- the integration of various modifications aimed at improving the safety of the installations,
- the control of several welds as part of the control strategy implemented with regard to the risk of stress corrosion,
- the replacement of a section of piping in the safety injection circuit (RIS).
Six significant safety events and three significant radiation protection events were reported to ASN during the shutdown.
In addition to the technical files that it checked, the ASN carried out four inspections, three of which were unannounced. These inspections made it possible to examine the conformity of the activities carried out during the shutdown, the condition of the installations and the safety, radiation protection and security conditions of the operations on several sites as well as the conditions for restarting the reactor.
After examining the results of the checks and work carried out during the shutdown, the Nuclear Safety Authority gave its approval on 27 August 2024, in application of ASN decision no. 2014-DC-0444 of 15 July 2014, to the restart of reactor 1 of the Paluel nuclear power plant.
