Shrimp cutters continue their search for a German girl near Ameland

“Further search at sea will have no effect. That is why it was jointly decided to stop searching at sea. In fact, we are now looking for a mortal remains”, said the KNRM spokesperson from Ameland last night.

“The sea is too big, the part of which we suspect where the girl can lie has been searched several times.”

Police are still going to search the coastline today, hoping to find the girl. Twenty shrimp cutters go out to sea on their own initiative to search for the girl, writes RTV North.

The fishermen want to tie the nets of their ships together. “We are sailing back and forth to the place of disaster and hope to find the girl,” explains one of the shrimp fishermen. “But we don’t know exactly how it will work, fortunately we have never had to do such an action before.”

According to the shrimp fishermen, “the most important thing is that the parents can take their child back to Germany.” “And this is the only way we can find her.”

On holiday

The German girl was on holiday with her sister and parents on Ameland. The two girls sat in the surf watching the sunset on Saturday night and got into trouble due to a treacherous current.

Their father came to their rescue. The sister and father managed to reach the beach, but the 14-year-old girl has since gone missing. A large search was started immediately.

“Must be real”

The chance that she is still alive is small, Mayor Leo Pieter Stoel said yesterday. “The water is 10 degrees and it is cold at night. We have to be real.”

Yesterday, five KNRM lifeboats and a coastguard helicopter searched the sea all day looking for a trail of the girl, but to no avail. The police combed the beach and the dunes, but that did not help either.
