Banksy posted a photo on Instagram of the half-shredded artwork, showing the shocked faces of the onlookers. Images of the auction and destruction went around the world. A stunt, but according to Sotheby’s Banksy actually created a new work of art with his action. “The first work of art in history to be created live at an auction,” it said.
After the fragmentation, the painting was renamed “Love is in the Bin”. The person who bought it, a European woman who wished to remain anonymous, decided to keep it. “I was shocked at first, but then I realized that I now had my own piece of art history at home,” it said in a statement.
