Showmetech TRIO: ChatGPT Blocked in Italy, Quadruped Robot That Plays Soccer, and Predictions for WWDC23

O Showmetech TRIO is a compilation of the most interesting news of the week. Today we highlight predictions for what we can expect in WWDC23, event with news from Apple; we will pass by blocking access to ChatpGPT in Italy; and we’re also going to talk about a quadruped robot who is able to play soccer in areas such as grass, mud and sand.

This is Showmetech TRIO, your weekly news trio, in video or text, whichever you prefer!

ChatGPT blocked in Italy

Artificial Intelligence tools are the biggest phenomenon on the internet today. But while many are learning about AI now, it’s already letting some users down—indeed, an entire country. We are talking about Italy, where the ChatGPT it is no longer working, at least for now.

The measure was imposed by the local protection authority called Ensures that this last Friday, March 31, opened an investigation in relation to ChatGPT on suspicions that the tool may be violating the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union.

“We will contact the Guarantor with the aim of restoring your access as soon as possible. Many of you have told us that you find ChatGPT useful for everyday tasks and we look forward to making it available again soon,” Open AI in a note.

A OpenAI, the company responsible for ChatGPT, appears not to have reported on the online data that is used to train the technology, such as gathering information on Internet forums. She also wasn’t entirely clear about the data being processed with her new technology, GPT-4.

While the training data used may be public as it is available online, the GDPR — General Data Protection Regulation, the European equivalent of the LGPD (General Data Protection Law) in Brazil — still works with pillars of transparency. The objection stems from the principle that the persons whose data were copied should have been informed.

All users who have subscribed to the paid service ChatGPT Plus will be refunded. In a note, OpenAI says it is working for ChatGPT to work as per the Ensures and, knowing that many people use the tool daily for work or entertainment, I would like to resolve this impasse as soon as possible.

Quadruped robot that plays soccer

A RoboCup, founded in 1996, is one of the largest robotics fairs in the world. The challenges to always bring the best technology in the area are overcome. One of these challenges was to build a robot capable of dribbling a soccer ball, a simple but effective way to train these machines’ motor skills and agility.

Most common in these robots was to see them as bipedal models on common terrain. But the Dribblebot do WITH, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, arrives in a quadruped, dog-like model. He performs his movements on the most varied terrains, even the most difficult ones, going through grass and mud and even snow and sand.

What to expect from wwdc23 | trio
“If you look around today, most robots have wheels. But imagine there’s a disaster, flood or earthquake scenario, and we want robots to help humans with the search and rescue process. We need machines to traverse terrain that is not flat, and wheeled robots cannot traverse those landscapes,” says MIT professor Pulkit Agrawal.

MIT professor, Pulkit Agrawal, explains that most robots created use wheels for locomotion, and the creation of a robot that moves without this different mechanism can be a salvation in specific scenarios. The specialist also explained that robots of this type can help in rescue operations in places hit by earthquakes and other natural disasters.

And of course the Dribblebot, like many other technologies, undergoes a long series of training to reach this level of capability. This type of training has broader applications and with future projects in mind, rather than a simple device capable of playing football. Continuous work remains, as like other robots, this one also has its limitations, such as reduced ability to incline and climb stairs. For now!

What can we expect from WWDC23?

And finally, let’s talk a little bit about the WWDC23, Apple’s event for developers that reveals the news of the year for the company’s ecosystem from June 5th to 9th. Theories already started with the invitation to the event. Some speculate that this rainbow image may represent news related to the mixed reality glasses from Apple. As it is an event focused on software, the chances of a device being displayed are low, but Apple has already released hardware at WWDC, so nothing is impossible, right?

What to expect from wwdc23 | trio
“WWDC is one of our favorite times of the year at Apple because it’s an opportunity to connect with the talented developers around the world who make this community so great. WWDC23 will be our biggest and most exciting yet, and we can’t wait to see so many of you online and in person at this very special event!” affirms
Susan Prescott, Vice President of Worldwide Developer Relations at Apple

Speaking of launching devices at WWDC, it is possible that Apple will also announce its version of Mac Pro with processor Apple Silicon, since current Mac Pros still rely on Intel processors. Other novelties that may be revealed are a MacBook Pro 13 inches, one MacBook Air 15 inches or even one iMac of 24 inches. Ah, remembering that these devices may come with an M3 chip.

And precisely because it is an event in which news for operating systems, applications and other internal resources are presented, it is possible to expect the announcement of the iOS 17, iPadOS 17, tvOS 17, macOS 14It’s from watchOS 10. At first, Apple does only the announcement of the news that will come for these operating systems. In practice, users will only be able to check what has changed on their devices in mid- Septemberwhen the new devices will be released along with these updates.
