Especially among the female participants, the players from Karlstadt were always at the forefront – in all disciplines! Overall the 2022/2023 South/West District Championships were a complete success.
These were played on three different railway systems. There were players from the clubs Fidelio Mainfranken, Zell, Welzbachtal, Germania Marktbreit, Würzburg, Kitzingen and of course Karlstadt. While all opponents competed on the track of KV Karlstadt, the men’s U23 and men had to go to Marktbreit and the senior AC to Lengfeld. The match was played in 120 shots without scoring mode, with a preliminary and final run.
Overall, the women’s performances were more consistent than outstanding.
For men, however, there were one or two notable findings:
First and foremost local hero Kurt Burkard, who now competes in Seniors B and has not only set the bar very high with 583 woods, but also catapulted to first place. Even in the final nobody managed to push him off the podium. With 572 woodworks and a total of 1155 runs, he remained in first place.
In the senior A, Karlstadter Dominik Forstner also submitted 583 woodworks in the first round. In the final, however, he could not match his performance from the day before and narrowly missed out on third place with his meager 495 cones. He had to share his woodwork total of 1078 points with Jürgen Leibold from Oberalterthheim. However, Leibold’s clearing result was six woods higher, which put him ahead of Forstner.
