Showed support for the protests; Iran banned the director
Tehran: Iran has banned the famous director Masoud Kimiyai from traveling after he expressed his support for the protests in Iran. The action was taken on the grounds that it supported the ongoing protests following the death of Mahsa Amini, who was killed in an attack by the moral police.
Kimiyai was scheduled to attend the Rotterdam Film Festival in the Netherlands. But by Sunday, the security officials banned the trip.
His film Killing a Traitor was also scheduled to be screened at the festival. Meanwhile, Kimiyai has been banned from traveling.
Large-scale protests will begin in Iran from September 2022. During this period, famous film stars and other film workers were similarly banned by the authorities.
In October, Iranian director Mani Haghighi’s passport was confiscated by officials. The incident happened when he was about to go to a film festival in London. In November, prominent Iranian actor Bahram Radan shared a video through social media that he was banned from traveling.
On September 16, 22-year-old Mahsa Amini Sadachara was killed in an attack by police.
