Last night, a shovel with a trailer drove down a dike in Lienden, in the Betuwe, and rammed into a house. The driver was injured. Everyone in the house was unharmed. However, there is a lot of damage; an entire corner of the house has been swept away.
Broadcasting Gelderland reports that the shovel on the Rijndijk in the Betuwe village had to swerve for a motorcyclist. The colossus first hit the dike house, before it ended up on its side in the garden with the trailer and all.
The driver of the shovel was taken to hospital. The residents of the dike house were at home, but not at the place where the accident happened. At first they thought it was a thunderstorm.
It is now being investigated whether load-bearing walls were hit during the impact and whether the dike house needs to be propped up.
