“Shouldn’t Take Advantage of Conditions to Overthrow the Government”

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chairman of the Indonesian Muslim Brotherhood ( Parmusi) Usamah Hisyam asked for the health and economic crisis conditions as a result pandemic Covid-19 not used to overthrow the government President Joko Widodo.

“Civil society should not take advantage of the national situation and conditions to overthrow a legitimate government simply because they can’t wait to hold back their political desires,” said Usamah when opening the IV Parmusi Congress virtually, Saturday (26/9/2020).

Usamah stated that efforts to overthrow the government would only lead to horizontal conflicts that would trigger the nation’s disintegration.

As a result, the people will be the ones who are most disadvantaged and suffering the most.

He emphasized that people must obey the law and the constitution to create a country that upholds civilization.

If there are parties who feel more worthy to lead the country, this must be done according to the constitution.

Instead of trying to overthrow the government, he asked the public to work together to help break the chain of transmission of the corona by disciplining in implementing health protocols.

“We all have to be loyal when the government is facing difficult conditions. By being united, working hard, sitting together to open a dialogue to solve the nation’s complex problems for the safety of the people,” he said.

Meanwhile, in his remarks, Jokowi emphasized that the crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic was not only experienced by Indonesia, but also 215 countries in various parts of the world.

Jokowi even gave a comparison with the United States, where there were 7.2 million positive cases. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s positive cases until yesterday were 266,845.

From an economic point of view, Jokowi also made comparisons with India. In the second quarter of 2020, the Indian economy contracted to minus 23.9 percent. Meanwhile, in the same period, Indonesia’s economic growth was minus 5.32 percent.
