Jakarta –
The battery is one of the most expensive components in an electric car. The price of the most important component in this electric car will certainly affect most of the selling price of the electric car.
It’s a shame that the current high price of electric cars has not helped to increase the selling price of used cars. In fact, the price of a used battery with a reduced capacity will have a very low price, and even if the battery is damaged, it can be said that the electric car is no longer valuable.
This was conveyed by Yannes Martinus Pasaribu, an automotive expert who works as a lecturer at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). According to him, the high price of new batteries and the too low price of used batteries means that the price of used electric cars will be very low.
“Second sales make me dizzy. Just imagine, for example, the Wuling (Air ev) Long Range has a 26.7 kWh battery, calculating 1 kWh is Rp. 10 million. This car costs around Rp. 300 million, so at most the body of the car is calculated at Rp. 40 the remaining millions are the price of batteries,” he said.
“Once the battery has expired, yes, there is no market price until now, so there is no price because the market for used batteries has not yet been formed,” continued Yannes.
Yannes explained that if the battery of an electric car is damaged and the warranty has expired, then a better choice is to buy a new car compared to just buying a new battery.
Buying a new car is also the right choice because generally electric car guarantees run out after 5 to 10 years and this is in line with the average time for Indonesians to buy a new car which is generally between the 7th and 10th years.
“From research, the average new person replaces and sells his used car to a newer car between the 7th and 10th years,” explained Yannes.
“Logically, it’s better to buy a new car, because there is no guarantee if we just replace the battery,” he continued.
But Yannes emphasized that the decision to better buy a new car would only be possible for electric cars that have low prices.
“Logic is that it is better to buy a new car than replace the car battery. It is predicted that this will happen for cheap electric cars. Because consumers will get guaranteed guarantees for spare parts within 5 to 10 years of the vehicle’s battery life,” he said.
