As the government plans to reform the health system, the future of mutuals is in question. Christophe Rameaux, economist and professor at the Sorbonne and Étienne Lefebvre, editor-in-chief of Les Echos, are present on the franceinfo platform to discuss it.

Economist and professor at the Sorbonne, Christophe Rameaux argues that the public sector can cost much less than the private one. He explains that the costs of Social Security amount to 4.6% against 27.5% for complementary. He concludes by saying that the “Grande Sécu” would increase the compulsory contributions of the French, but this would reduce their contributions to complementary health insurance.
If Etienne Lefebvre, editor-in-chief of Les Echos, argues that the French are generally well taken care of, he believes that the entire system is not effective. Indeed, the latter considers that Social Security does not guarantee a real role for mutuals in health management. The journalist does not support the thesis of the “Great Security”. He also evokes another alternative considered by the government, that of specializing complementary and giving them this role in the health system.
