The fall of a horse during the Bajada de Las Guayarminas has reopened the debate. Should they stop using animals as mere entertainment in the Canary Islands?
The Pacma before the video that went viral this Sunday has released a statement in which it rejects this type of practice on the islands.
“A practice, racing, where each year horses die as a result of fatal falls, serious fractures, most of them legs, spines or shoulders, heart attacks or a reduction in their performance that makes them no longer commercially viable for their owners,” said the political party.
“From PACMA we ask the Gáldar City Council to put an end to all those activities where animals are used as mere entertainment,” they request.
The events took place in the III Horse Race that is celebrated in the streets of the municipality of the northwest of Gran Canaria for its patron saint festivities, a rider fell from the horse in the middle of the race and the animal ended up runaway, causing great chaos in the aforementioned activity. .
The rider, known as the Tuta in the world of island horse racing, did not suffer serious damage and is in good health. Finally, the horse was recovered when it was already near the municipality of Santa María de Guía.
