Should the vaccination passport be compulsory in spas?

If several activities require the use of the vaccine passport to be practiced in Quebec, the spas have not been imposed this measure by the government, a decision that raises questions about the security aspect and the possible spread of COVID. -19 on these sites.

Since the reopening of the spas, the vaccination passport is only requested when a catering service is present.

“If we have a catering service on our sites, which is frequent, the vaccination passport is required for catering. And if the catering is isolated, at that time, for the rest of the site, it is not necessary, ”explained Véronique Lemieux, president of the Association québécoise des spas, in an interview Monday on the Geneviève program. Pettersen at QUB radio.

Proof of vaccination is therefore not mandatory for access to other services, such as saunas or steam baths.

“Within the meaning of the law, we do not have to ask for it, then it is up to the sites to decide if they want to do more than the law”, underlined Ms. Lemieux, who clarified that no outbreak of the virus has was not reported on any of the sites in the province.

The president of the association also insisted on the fact that the maintenance of the spas has been increased to prevent any spread of the virus, a measure which is part of the health protocol that was approved by Quebec.

“The doors still allow ventilation and the heat means that the virus also does not hold, it is excessively hot in a sauna,” added Ms. Lemieux.

If no specific study makes it possible to make a link between heat and the virus, a scientific coordinator of the COVID-STOP collective, Nancy Delagrave, has advanced that “outside [des spas], we know that the risk is much smaller ”.

However, Ms. Delagrave does not understand the government’s decision not to impose the vaccination passport in the spas of the province.

“The vaccination passport is a way of encouraging vaccination, then it protects people better, and here we are not in an activity like shopping for groceries, which we absolutely need to live, so to my opinion that it would have been coherent to require it ”, she affirmed.

A good solution to ensure the safety of people on the sites would therefore be the implementation of rapid tests, according to the coordinator.
