Should the government be more active in combating obesity? | Join the conversation

According to Van der Voort, the IC problem would not exist if everyone in the Netherlands had a BMI below 25. People with a BMI of 25 or more are overweight. A BMI of 30 or more means you are seriously overweight. In 2020, approximately 50 percent of Dutch adults were overweight, according to the Health Survey/Lifestyle Monitor. 14 percent were seriously overweight.

According to the National Intensive Care Evaluation Foundation (NICE), about 80 percent of corona patients in ICU are overweight. The percentage of corona patients in ICU who are seriously overweight is 40 percent.
