Criticism

MP Kwint is not the only politician who has ever been criticized for his outfit. For example, Hans Spekman (PvdA) often wore woolen sweaters. Deputy Prime Minister Sigrid Kaag (D66) recently appeared with sneakers under her suit during a press conference. Hanke Bruins Slot, Minister of the Interior, once wore a leather jacket in the House of Representatives and Lise Westerveld (GroenLinks) is also often criticized for her outfits during debates. She recently wore a purple shirt with a large butterfly, something that was not liked on Twitter.

Dress code

There is no official dress code in the House of Representatives. But according to political commentator Frits Wester van RTL News there are unwritten rules and it is customary to wear neat clothes in the House of Representatives. It used to be the norm for women to wear suit suits and men to wear a two- or three-piece suit.

Should politicians go back to that formal dress style? Or do you find it personal and refreshing to see MPs wear what they want?

Comments

Twitterer Hugo is negative about the T-shirt of MP Peter Kwint. Pollux responds, because there are indeed unwritten dress codes, according to the Twitter user.

Ria thinks there should be guidelines for the dress code of MPs.

Tim thinks it is important that MPs are a reflection of society. He just wants to get rid of the ties and suits.
