Should Norwegian books be scrutinized before publication, so that they do not offend anyone?

Once again the US is knocking on the door.

The publisher’s new sensitivity consultant in the Swedish comedy series Kärlek & anarki (Netflix) reacts to the script for a forthcoming book. “Mediocrity has acquired the whims of a prima donna,” says one of the short stories. The consultant “feels great discomfort” on behalf of the world’s mediocrity.

Somewhat by chance, he gets a chance to explain his proposed amendments face to face with the author. “I’ll make sure no one has a bad time,” he says. “Shouldn’t you work in politics then?” asks the author back. There is much to improve in the real world, she adds, but literature is fiction.
