Migchels calls the feed measure the most interesting. A dairy cow that gets too much protein will immediately poop it out. That is bad for the environment and for the wallet of the farmer, because protein-rich food is expensive and the surplus ends up in nature. The trick is therefore to feed a cow exactly the amount of protein that is needed for the highest possible milk yield. Adding silage maize, feeding low-protein concentrates, grazing in the meadow and mowing later are ways to reduce the amount of protein in the feed.
