The long-running Games with Gold program also continues to advance on Xbox Live Gold. It’s a bit puzzling when compared, but Xbox still offers two different avenues to acquire and play free games.
Standard Gold members still get Games with Gold every month, while Xbox Game Pass subscribers get the entire library instantly, and Game Pass Ultimate subscribers get both.
However, each month’s game selection in 2020 has left fans wondering why Games with Gold still exists.
In the wake of the growing popularity of Xbox Game Pass, the Xbox Live Games with Gold program continues to emphasize its redundancy issue.
Xbox Game Pass is not only Microsoft’s main marketing push, but the “free games” offering is much more attractive compared to what’s on offer with Games with Gold de Xbox Live.
Those with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate they still get both regardless, but even with Games with Gold offering “free” games, the game selection is comparatively weaker.
Even compared to a similar show like PS Plus, Games with Gold still pales in comparison to what PlayStation, and even Xbox itself, are already doing.
Regardless, even with higher profile games, Games with Gold still has a redundancy issue.
Selection of Games with Gold Not only is it hampered by the emphasized Xbox Game Pass support, but the game selection itself becomes so nebulous that fans are likely to ignore them anyway.
It would be interesting to see statistics showing how many Gold subscribers downloaded these free games and if they are also subscribed to Game Pass or not.
Either way, Microsoft may not necessarily have a reason to end the Games with Gold program, but if Xbox Game Pass continues to beat it, the program may not have a proper place alongside the Xbox games subscription.
