Should Amsterdam Introduce Pay-to-Visit System for Tourists Like Venice?

Pay to visit Amsterdam as a tourist? In Venice are you sSince the end of April, it has been compulsory to buy an entrance ticket to visit the Italian city. Would that also be a solution for most tourists here?

Since the end of April, the city of Venice has allowed tourists to buy a day entry ticket. It works like this: before you visit you buy a ticket online for 5 euros. This ticket can then be scanned at various locations in the city using a QR code.

With this step they hope to control the large crowd of tourists in Venice. But for the residents of Venice it feels like living in a circus, says journalist for Venezia Today, Leonardo Bison.

The tourists on the street in Amsterdam are not very much in favor of such an entry ticket: “It’s not fair”, “this is really stupid” and “why would you introduce such a measure? ” according to Bison to show that you are doing something against mass tourism, “but it is not enough.”

Is this the solution for Amsterdam? Bison has a hard time about it. “There is not a maximum number of tickets available each day, so anyone who wants to come can still do so. Besides, my experience shows: ticket sales have never been so busy in my opinion. Just look at amusement parks or museums, visitors come anyway.”

The ticketing system in Venice currently only applies on weekends until July, after which it will be evaluated.
