Shots in Munich: Police suspect terrorist attack on Israel’s consulate general – Munich

City of Munich debates pro-Palestine camp in front of university

The closure of a protest camp of pro-Palestinian activists, demanded by the Bavarian anti-Semitism commissioner Ludwig Spaenle (CSU), is apparently being discussed within the city administration. “Current events, such as those tragically occurring today, are being taken into account in ongoing risk forecasts for gatherings,” the responsible district administration department said when asked. The camp has existed for months in front of Munich’s Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU).

The authority says it is in contact with the police, but also with the organizers. “At this point in time, we are waiting for the results of the ongoing investigations before any further decisions can be made,” it says. According to current knowledge, there are no dangers for demonstrations planned for the next few days. The district administration department emphasizes that it “currently has no information that puts today’s exchange of gunfire near Karolinenplatz in direct context with the permanent vigil taking place at the LMU.”

According to critics, statements are repeatedly made at the camp that can be interpreted as a denial of Israel’s right to exist. A month ago, an arson attack was carried out on the camp, presumably motivated by anti-Islam.
