VICTORIA — Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in British Columbia say an individual set fire to two vehicles and fired multiple shots at a Greater Victoria home that land records show is owned by Indo-Canadian musician AP Dhillon.
West Shore RCMP said officers were called to a Colwood home early Monday morning and found evidence of shots fired at or inside the residence.
Federal police said two vehicles were on fire and residents were evacuated from the home while the fires were put out.
The statement comes after videos were posted on social media showing an unidentified person firing a pistol at the house while two vehicles burned in the driveway.
Investigators have not identified the owner of the house, but title documents show it belongs to Amritpal Singh Dhillon, the Punjabi music artist known professionally as “AP Dhillon.”
Dhillon, who made history at last year’s Juno Awards with his first-ever Punjabi musical performance, posted a message on Instagram Monday after the shooting saying he was safe.
The artist is a huge star in India and among the Punjabi diaspora. His song “Excuses” became the most streamed song on Spotify in India in 2022.
