Shots fired at Punjabi singer AP Dhillon’s Vancouver Island home

Shots were fired early Monday morning at the Vancouver Island residence of popular singer and music producer AP Dhillon.

A video released by Indian media shows a person firing 14 shots into the facade of a house and a garage, while a black truck and another smaller vehicle are on fire in the driveway.

The Punjabi singer, who moved to Canada from India in 2015 and is based in Victoria, said in a fleeting Instagram post Monday night that he was doing well.

I am safe. My loved ones are safe. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me. Your support means everything, he wrote. Peace and love to all.

In a statement, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said they evacuated occupants of a residence after finding two vehicles on fire and evidence that several shots had been fired inside the home.

Police say their preliminary investigation suggests this was a targeted event. They say the general public is not at risk.

Indian media reported that a member of the India-based Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the shooting on social media.
