Shot mother walking her children on the streets of Queens, New York; two injured

A mother walking her 2 and 5 year old children and a man near them were shot yesterday on a street in Queens (NYC).

Miraculously the children were not reached. The suspect opened fire from a car. Black Acura SUV when the victims were standing in front of a residential building on Mott Ave. near Cornaga Ave. in the Far Rockaway neighborhood around 6:45 p.m. yesterday, police said.

The 28-year-old woman was shot in the chest and the 44-year-old man was shot in the arm.. They were transferred to Jamaica Hospital in stable condition.

After the shooting, which took place about two blocks from the headquarters of the 101 Police Station from the NYPD, the suspect accelerated in an unknown direction, reported Daily News.

Both victims were known to the NYPD, although it was not immediately clear if they were related, police said. They were not identified and it is not known if they were the target of the shots.

The incident occurred on the same day as the funeral of Azsia Johnson, the 20-year-old mother shot to death while pushing her young daughter in a stroller on the Upper East Side on June 29. Her ex-boyfriend was arrested as a suspect days later.
