Shot Again in the Head, 2 Myanmar Protesters Killed on the Spot

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Violence continues to occur in Myanmar, Monday (8/3/2021). Two anti-coup protesters were found dead from gunshot wounds to the head.

Reported Reuters, this was revealed through a photo that developed on Facebook. The photo shows the bodies of two men lying on a street in the northern city of Myitkyina.


Witnesses say they took part in the protests when police fired stun grenades and tear gas. Several people were later hit by gunfire from nearby buildings.

One witness said he helped move the bodies. He said that the two men were shot in the head and died immediately on the spot.

“How inhuman it is to kill unarmed civilians,” said the witness, a 20 year old man.

“We must have the right to protest peacefully.”

It was not clear who opened fire on the protesters even though the police and military were at the protest site. Previously, according to UN data, more than 50 people had died because of violence by security forces at the Myanmar demonstration.

Previously, the union was in Myanmar called for a mass strike starting this Monday. This was done in an effort to support the anti-coup movement and put pressure on the military junta.

An alliance of nine trade unions in Myanmar issued a statement calling for a “complete shutdown of the economy (economic shut down). They include workers from the construction, agriculture and manufacturing sectors.

“Continuing economic and business activities as usual … will only benefit the military because they suppress the energy of the Myanmar people,” they said in a joint statement. Reuters.

“Now is the time to take action to defend our democracy.”
