Vladimir Mashkov has been deeply convinced for many years that physical training is very important for any actor. Despite outward romanticism, the profession of an artist, according to him, significantly affects health. No one can avoid problems.
The vital energy of Vladimir Mashkov can only be envied. This year, the actor will celebrate his 60th birthday, but he still looks energetic and fit. The artist even tries not to use understudies, which causes the respect of colleagues. True, and he talks about the dangers of the acting profession, hiding nothing.
In a new interview, the artist said that during the filming of the film “The Edge” he almost drowned in a stormy mountain river. In the episode where Mashkov’s hero swims in icy water (then it was only 12 degrees Celsius outside, and the water barely warmed up to eight), a professional stuntman was supposed to participate. But Vladimir Lvovich decided that he would play on his own – it would be more believable that way. Director Alexei Uchitel supported the artist.
“I was prepared, but I didn’t calculate,” Mashkov explained.
Then the actor almost drowned. Fortunately, the film crew threw him a rope in time and pulled him out of the water. But artists suffer, according to Vladimir Lvovich, not only when filming in extreme conditions.
“If you see in the cinema that someone falls on the asphalt, on the floor, you should know that it is always an injury, always! And this artist no longer has hands, knees … To what extent he beat them off, this is the next question, but if you see a plausible fall, the person is injured. Such is the specificity of the profession, “said the artistic director of the theater Oleg Tabakov.
At the same time, Mashkov noted that the actors themselves willingly agree to such adventures and “climb into hell”, since it is very interesting and useful for a career. The psyche of creative people is generally very mobile, Vladimir Lvovich believes. In his youth, even in ordinary life he was very quick-tempered and emotional and used his fists more than once.
