Shortage of Foreign HIV Drug Tivicay (Dolutegravir) in Sverdlovsk Region Leads to Severe Side Effects for Patients

In the Sverdlovsk region, HIV-infected people complained about the shortage of the foreign drug Tivicay (dolutegravir). It was temporarily replaced with an analogue that causes severe side effects in patients.

“The foreign drug Tivicay has become scarce. At the beginning of the year, 8 thousand packages were purchased for the region, of which a meager share remained, ”the Ural Mash telegram channel reports.

Patients told the publication that instead of a foreign drug, they are prescribed an analogue – Turonovir. Some people experience an allergic reaction after taking this drug. In response from the AIDS Center of the Sverdlovsk region, the publication states that there is indeed a shortage of dolutegravir in the region. The issue of its purchase is being decided. While patients who do not have contraindications receive therapy with another drug.

A couple of years ago in the region observed shortage of drugs for the treatment of HIV infection. At that time, patients were also offered replacement therapy that caused side effects.

The regional AIDS Center reported that the issue of purchasing medicines is being resolved
