Shortage of components: Apple wants to add a new supplier of Mini-LED panels to its supply chain

Apple Obviously seeks to secure its production in a context of strong tensions on the availability of electronic components. If we are to believe several sources close to the matter, the Cupertino company is looking for a new supplier of mini-LED panels. The latter would strengthen the production capacities of mini-LED panels of Epistar and Ams Osram. The mini Led panels are currently intended for the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro as well as the 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Other products should logically integrate this type of tile in 2022.

The Chinese LED Sanan Optoelectronics was a time tipped to be the third thief of the mini-Led in the supply chain from Apple, but the Asian supplier would not have met Apple’s quality criteria, not to mention a few bickering around patents. Apple is therefore once again without a back-up solution in case the situation deteriorates (new constraints on components, rebound from the pandemic, climatic phenomena, etc.).
