September 2, 2023. – Clinics of the IMSS, ISSSTE and the same Federal Health Secretariat recognize shortages of BCG vaccines against tuberculosis
Chihuahua, Chih.- The PAN deputy, Luis Aguilar, made a new call addressed to the Federal Government and the Ministry of Health, to expedite the supply of medicines and vaccines, after health institutions denounced that they have 1 to 2 months without counting on the Bacille de Calmette and Guérin (BCG) vaccine against tuberculosis, which is part of the National Vaccination Scheme.
Aguilar pointed out that it is urgent that this situation be addressed, since this vaccine should be applied to newborns, especially those who live in areas with a high incidence of tuberculosis, or who may be exposed to this infectious disease.
“We have repeatedly commented that the Mexican health system during this six-year term has failed to apply essential vaccines for girls and boys.
We went from universal coverage of 95%, to having vaccination schemes below 75%, which translates into a greater risk to the health and lives of minors in Mexico.”, mentioned the deputy.
Finally, Luis Aguilar declared that in the institutions and clinics consulted in several states, they do not have a probable date for the availability of this vaccine, as well as other vaccines and medicines.
