Short Story of the Minister of Health as a Former Hepatitis Patient

TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA — In commemoration of World Hepatitis Day XII in 2021, the Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin told a brief story, he is a former Hepatitis sufferer.

He had hepatitis at the age of child-child.

“I am a sufferer hepatitis to me when I was little. At that time I did not understand what Hepatitis was like, because I was under 10 years old. I remember my mother was taking care of me and was worried,” he said in opening the webinar with the theme “Handling Hepatitis Immediately”, Wednesday (28/7/2021).

According to him, the recovery from the Hepatitis disease he suffered earlier is a proof that the government’s initiative to deal with Hepatitis is at least successful, so it can be healthy until now.

“Because I just understood that Hepatitis can become chronic, can become cirrhosis and liver cancer which has a very fatal impact on our people,” he said.

In the future, the Ministry of Health and a number of parties will continue to pay attention to the upstream sector, namely promotive and preventive as an efficient, inexpensive, and also more prosperous way.

“I can still live productively in the future, so I do make sure that this vaccination is very important,” he said.

To note, Hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver or liver. Hepatitis is caused by a viral infection, or other conditions or diseases, such as alcohol consumption, use of certain drugs, or autoimmune diseases.

Hepatitis can be contagious if it is caused by a viral infection.

If not handled properly, hepatitis can cause complications, such as liver failure, cirrhosis, or liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma).
