Jakarta (ANTARA) – Two new iPhone 12 models went on sale in China on Friday (23/10) after pre-orders showed strong consumer interest in Apple’s 5G-capable phone in the tech giant’s second largest market.
The short queues outside the Apple Store located in central Shanghai’s business are a stark contrast to the crowds that flocked to the first sale the previous year, as most orders have now shifted online.
“I feel happy to be the first customer to get a new iPhone,” Yan Bingqing, 30, told Reuters, quoted Saturday.
Yan Bingqing arrived before the shop opened, and was in a line of about 20 people. “I’ve been waiting a long time,” he continued.

The new green color for the iPhone 12 also topped the China Weibo app on Friday, prompting positive reactions.
Apple’s announcement last week received mixed responses. Analysts expect a surge in orders to occur this year, as loyal iPhone users can finally buy new phones compatible with the 5G network infrastructure.
Retail e-commerce China JD.com noted pre-orders for all four iPhone 12 models hit 1.6 million on the first day of the announcement.
“From the bottom of my heart, it’s a bit too late for Apple to release the 5G iPhone,” said Zhu Lin, another Apple fan who had been waiting in line. “I was expecting it last year,” he added.
Apple and Huawei Technologies are the only top phone makers to increase shipment growth in China this year, with a 35 percent annual increase for Apple in the second quarter, according to market research firm Canalys.
The inaugural sale of Apple’s latest cellphone follows the launch of Huawei’s flagship phone, the Mate 40 Series, on Thursday (22/10), which we look forward to before deciding to use the iPhone 12.
