Short-handed Steyr falls to Linz in hard-fought basketball game

STEYR/LINZ. The heavily decimated Steyr basketball players competed against BBC RD Linz AG on Saturday. Four important regular players, Polat, Hilgärtner, Rubio-Frias and Spasic, were unable to take part in the game for various reasons, which reduced the Scorps to just seven players…

This also included the 15-year-old young talent Jaramaz, for whom it was a great opportunity to get a lot of playing time.

The Scorps controlled the game in the first quarter and showed some nice moves. In the second quarter, however, the home team began to recover and had more and more positive phases of play. They won this quarter 22:13 and gained a lead of 5 points, making it 40:35 for Linz at halftime.

In the second half, captain Mlynsky showed a strong performance and kept his team in the game. The deficit going into the last ten minutes was just five points and the game was completely open. Unfortunately, the guests lacked energy in the last quarter and the Red Devils were able to win the game with an 18:6 run.

Player-coach Mlynsky, who was the game’s top scorer with 36 points: “It was a very stressful game. We were missing a lot of players, especially on the perimeter, which was clearly noticeable. Nevertheless, we gave it our all and were able to keep up well at times. Unfortunately, we allowed too many offensive rebounds, which led to unnecessarily easy points for Linz At the same time, we weren’t able to take advantage of our good throwing opportunities. We have to continue to work hard on that in training.”

BBC RD Linz AG – BBC McDonald’s Iron Scorps Steyr 89:77 (18:22, 40:35, 58:53)
