Sunday, January 30 is the first Sunday this year, one of seven, without a trade ban. At the same time, last Sunday with trade for stores, which in recent months also traded on banned Sundays, using the “post office” trick. From February 1, this gap in the law will be closed for good.

A chapter closes today in the history of Polish trade. On Tuesday, February 1, a new law comes into force, according to which, in 2022, trade will only be allowed on seven Sundays a year – including two in April and two in December, which means that there will also be months when we will not shop in galleries or other places with large stores on any Sunday.

Shops will be closed on Sunday from February. Fortel for a post office, which allows thousands of Biedronka, Lidl, Auchan and other chains to be open also on Sundays formally subject to the trade ban, ceases to work and from February 2022 is no longer valid.

Anyway, Sunday, January 30, is one of the seven officially commercial Sundays – so all shops may be open, including those that do not use a stratagem for a post office.

From February, all large-format stores will be closed. Discount stores, hypermarkets, DIY stores and electronics stores will be closed. We are returning to the situation from before the moment when shops massively began to use the legislative stratagem “for a post office”.

Entrepreneurs would like to trade on Sunday, customers divided

– Unfortunately, the expectations of the society and entrepreneurs are not listened to. On the eve of the peak of the fifth wave of the pandemic, shops are closing on Sunday, which will generate a crowd on shopping on Saturdays. This is a wrong decision. Harmful from an economic point of view, but also proof that the voice of trade representatives was not taken into account by parliamentarians. People want to shop on Sunday. The last few months have proved it – says Hanna Mojsiuk, President of the Northern Chamber of Commerce in Szczecin.
