It was 7% quieter in the shopping streets on Thursday than on Wednesday, Bureau RMC reports. According to the researchers, this is also remarkable because it is 13% busier on an average Thursday than on Wednesday. This is partly due to the Thursday shopping evening, which is now temporarily prohibited.
Compared to the same Thursday a year ago, there were even 65% fewer visitors.
After the earlier measures of September 28, a limited effect was seen on the shopping street bustle. Now there is an immediate effect of the stricter measures that took effect on Wednesday evening, the bureau said.
According to RMC, people have recently started shopping more purposefully in the city center. Local shopping is also a lot more popular and people have flocked to the residential boulevards, hardware stores and garden centers in recent months. In addition, there is a relatively strong decrease in visitor numbers in the large cities.
