Uhalf a dozen shoplifters have marched these days in the brigades of the Reims gendarmerie company. The first was caught at the Leclerc hypermarket in Champfleury last Friday after an engine oil theft. Of Georgian nationality, he said that it was not he who took the container but a person accompanying him. The investigation is continuing to try to identify it.
Tuesday at 4 p.m., the Taissy gendarmes had to return to the Leclerc to arrest another Georgian caught with 30 euros of food. He was released pending a decision.
Chase at Fismes
The next day, Wednesday, two individuals tried to leave the Intersport de Thillois with a down jacket of 350 euros and various materials. They too Georgians, they left the Gueux gendarmerie with a summons to the courthouse where a fourth shoplifting case was tried that same day.
It also concerns two Georgians arrested Tuesday afternoon in Fismes. Coming from Reims (like the previous ones implicated elsewhere), the duo first stole bottles of whiskey from Intermarché before going to the neighboring Bricomarché. At the same time, having noticed the theft, the Intermarché security guard alerted the gendarmes who arrived when the thieves were leaving the Bricomarché. Getting rid of the tools they had stolen, they fled by car but the constabulary caught up with them in front of the SNCF station, at the crossroads. Their intention was to resell the booty.
Judged on Wednesday in plea-guilty, the first Georgian was warned with a suspended sentence of two months in prison, unlike the second, 23 years old, repeat offender, sentenced to two months in prison but without immediate imprisonment (they could be furnished).
